This is a story…

A Five Ws rhyming tale of imagination to excite and inspire

This is a story all about how

A mouse was afraid of a shrewd barn owl.

When the sun rose, mouse frolicked and played,

But as nighttime fell, she became owl’s prey.

The terrified mouse saw a winged shadow-shape

And desperately planned her daring escape.

This is a story all about what

A sailor achieved with an old-fashioned knot.

During a storm, wild and with fury,

He fastened the sails; tight and securely.

Fighting towering waves as big as a house

To get back to his love, his darling wife-spouse.

This is a story all about when

Dinosaurs roamed long before men.

Magnificent beasts with horns, tails and claws

And razor-sharp teeth in their menacing jaws.

Then out of the blue, rained fiery skies

Before a long winter caused their demise.

This is a story all about where

A girl woke up screaming from a nightmare.

For under her bed roared a noise so grotesque,

Then a disfigured goblin appeared on her desk.

Her curtains then coiled into a slithery snake,

So she cried out in fear and was now wide awake.

This is a story all about who

Were the first of our kind with a grandiose view.

They’d travelled from Earth at a distance so far

To reach out a hand and be touched by a star.

Floating above in a nothingness void

Looking down on our planet, overcome, overjoyed.

This is a story all about why

An excitable dog ended up in the sky.

While chasing a cat as if in a cartoon,

The dog leapt upon a hot-air balloon.

But the cat jumped off and hastily fled,

While the dog did not and was flying instead.

This is your story yet to be written.

It can include anything, be it Viking or kitten.

Inspiration can come from wherever you look:

A bus ride, the clouds or a fish on a hook.

So embark on a journey with pen, paint or play;

Let imagination run free for the rest of the day.
