This Far

It’s been said by those who’ve come this far,

That life is worth living no matter how bazaar.

From sunup to sundown and hours in between,

Let’s give thanks for those things done and seen.

To be ungrateful is to be more than disrespectful,

To nature and life and love is to be neglectful.

Those who spend their time being resentful,

And trod through life mundane and uneventful.

You ask why anyone should be so thrilled,

To laugh and sing and strive to be fulfilled.

The answer is simple and easily understood,

It’s to do all that one can, anytime that you could.

For to leave a memory at someone’s front door,

Is to give them part of you, a soul that soars.

From earthbound to heavenward we’ve all traveled,

And kept each moment, each dream unraveled.

So, to you, I give away my most treasured gift,

One of life and love and experiences sifted.

Upon threshing floors of time that all must pass through,

From day to day, from year to year this passage we knew.

Surrendering to this voyage that will someday end,

Is to experience something that only time sends.

Be filled with memories, each day's events,

Loving and living to the fullest their contents.
