Thirst

A Way to Question Oneself

You stare down into their eyes. Wide. Innocent. Afraid. Their body quivers, breathing shallow, almost as if too much movement would cause you to snap, and take them.

You would, you both know it.

The air is thick with potential energy, what ifs careening into each other, thoughts tumbling, mouth watering. They’ve never looked so tasty. You breathe deeply, your mouth opens slightly to pant, to taste the air, to inhale their scent.

‘Please’ is almost whispered, a whimper, a heartbeat, the pulse in their throat, that soft, exposed throat.

You move, sudden, arms wrapping around your prey, their whimpers responding as they grow limp in your arms.

And you taste the sweat on their skin.

The Thirst may be sated, at least temporarily, tonight.
