Things I Found in My Sock Drawer

That Helped Me Understand

Gnashed teeth and dry gums

Longing turned into raging

Disbelief; Jesus Christ

You broke my heart

Without any sort of warning

Do you even feel bad?

Even just a smidge

of these dusty crushed pills

can’t cure the piercing

Silence.

Lame heartbreak poetry

won’t replace the pain

or the heartache

Or the fact that it's 5 am

and you’re thinking about

Her eyes

and how she continues

to blink

without a hint of regret,

Maybe it's time I accept

My fate.

Maybe death will

fall in love with me

the way she

Never could.
