Thief

Something warned me you were coming

By Maggie Published 2 years ago • 1 min read

Something warned me you were coming

Something told me not to be alone

Something told me life was going to well

To fear the unknown

Like a thief you snuck in so quickly

You rifled through my strengths

my insecurities

Leaving me with only weakness

You took something precious

Something I couldn’t replace

Without any alarms or time to panic

It was done before I knew what was happening

Something I couldn’t understand

Something I couldn’t see

You used my heart to strike without being seen

A flaw I didn’t know I had

A route better than taking my breath away

You were forced out but far too slowly

Leaving me alone to fix the damage

I just wanted someone to hold my hand

Something to help me feel again

Something to remind me of how it all works

You starved the room of its oxygen

You left me vulnerable

Something I never wanted to feel again

Something more to be exploited

Something to fear

Something….

The thief

The thief in my blood

The thief in my mind

In one stroke

sad poetry
