They're Gone

verse 3

By Forest GreenPublished 2 months ago • 1 min read

I see shadows in the rearview every time I drive

Hear they voices in the wind when I’m barely alive

Told ‘em I’d make it, now the promise feel cheap

‘Cause the ones I made it for, they ain’t here to see

I pour out the liquor, let the concrete drink

Watch the bubbles disappear, that’s what I think

About the days we was young, talkin’ reckless and bold

Now the stories get told by the ones that stayed cold

I’m still breathin’, still schemin’, still chasin’ the dream

But the victory taste different when you chase it alone

They’re gone now, but the fire still burn in my soul

Every move that I make, they still part of the goal

So I grind for the names that the reaper erased

Turn the pain to a crown, let the legacy taste

They’re gone now, but the legacy lives in my stride

Every step that I take, they still ridin’ inside
