They Will Come

As we go

They Will Come

As we run from pain

Death waits for us all

Fear accompanies us always

Like an alarm in our brains

***

We can’t slow down

Pain is near

We run too fast

Pain touches us on the inside

***

When our feelings burn life in the snow

Thus comes the end

Death is pain’s dear friend

Still, they will come as we go

***

We wish we could be friends with fear

They are the one who keeps us awake

And warn us when it’s time to run

Too many false alerts, no freedom to eat and rest

***

Fear is the worst

We let them in

They steal our mind

And teach pain how to govern our life
