These Bodies Don't Belong to Us

by Shadow Ward

The entire Earth breathes

Imagine the variability of a colorless world

Splotches of grays, blacks, and whites

I cannot doubt sorrow in my heart

I cannot reflect upon this dreadful

atmospheric void

My discomfort in this vessel

Your dissociation from your own

We set forth on foot

I put light in your hands

You open your palms

A hurricane of colors fills the void

We search for skeletons

Of softer selves

The sunlight hours

Fragments surrounded by

Reds, violets, and blues

The flow of blood

Through our fragile veins

Is this Earth?

The most vivid performance

of terrestrial bodies

At night

A purple sky

Hangs over our bones

The stars reflect in our flesh

We dissolve into the northern lights

Dancing naked in a cosmic ocean

We are finally free

Of our earthly forms

surreal poetry
