There Will Be Coffee Today
On Sunday mornings

Morning coffee on the balcony
There will be coffee today when the sky is pale
And gauzy with the scent of rain.
Pouring amber from painted porcelain
To warm and to wait,
A moment for the rumbles to pass
And the sirens to fade.
Until there is only sugar to shake
In the quiet,
That is enough to keep the world at bay
To stir in spots of milk
And thought
Before,
The stilling sip and sighing taste
Of early mornings and better days.
And here I count the ways
I start the day,
In spots like this,
But not as precious, not as fine.
Or as mine
To watch the coming rain.
