There's No Such Things as Unicorns

The American Dream is a unicorn

shimmering and shining

and just as make-believe.

A mirage in the desert

wavering in the heat

of never ending

Slavery. Moving forward,

because that is direction

everyone else is going.

Running the rat race,

only the cheese

at the end of the

maze is moldy.

Puppets without

Voice boxes.

Screaming—

But no one can hear

over the noise

of progress.

One more promotion,

one more useless

Gadget. That will make

our lives complete.

And fulfill our

Cankerous need

to consume.

Without realizing

We are being

Consumed—

Becoming

Dried up husks

with no

identity to call our own.
