Pieces of My Past

My door is open, but you won't pass the threshold.

Are you scared, or just foolish?

//

I got tired of embarrassing myself trying to impress you.

There is peace in the distance.

I am scalded by the anxiety of you.

//

You’ll fall in love with my absence before you fall in love with me.

//

I am tired of the songs that remind me of you

They are no longer special

I cannot sing along with the same passion

that I used to

I am a bystander in the stadium of this concert

and you are the lead singer.

//

I hear our souls weeping for each other

as we howl into the void

Your misery is a delight to heal

We are both lonely,

and bored with routine

So we escape into each other

But we fear

this too

will one day

become routine.
