we spun well over
twenty kilos of honey
on the weekend
(from six frames)
four from the super
two from the top brood box
all easily over
three quarters full
i was supposed to be
sterilising the lids and jars
today
i was supposed to be
jarring this honey
today
(this sweet, sweet honey)
it's a bit warm out there (Bruce)
it’s forecast to get even warmer
by mid afternoon
so the jars will go
in a low oven later
on this evening
(maybe)
the bees are cleaning the stickies
i placed near their hive
once they are done
it’s into the freezer
to eradicate any nasties
that were thinking “free ride”
any spills are cleaned with a finger
(this fresh fresh honey)
a quick splash and dunk
in a cold sink
will suffice
because despite the stickiness
its so easy to clean;
cold water
a microfibre cloth
wipe wipe
rinse rinse
everyone should have a hive!
everyone with a backyard!
everyone with a roof!
EVERYONE!
(unless you live in a cave BIG SHOUT OUT to Coober Pedy SA)
if you cant hold a hive
plant any of these
- Salvia
- Borage
- Buddleia
- Lavender
- Sunflowers
it is here i would like to pause
and press upon you
the crucial and vital
role of the humble bee
cause if they go
WE ALL GO
no saved game
no second chance
no replay
no mulligan
just
lights out!
