The Year of the Ox
1973...

Disco dreams crowd my brain
with Don Cornelious and The Soul Train.
Riding the bus cost thirteen cents,
and you can forget about the white picket fence.
We were happy but poor and didn't even care,
when all the talk was about Gladys Knight's hair.
She could really get down and boogeyed all night.
Midnight Train to Georgia was a Hit, am I right?
Grandma's tasty brittle with macadamia,
couldn't outshine the strength of Beatlemania.
Their songs still played everywhere,
as radio stations flooded the air.
Afros, dreadlocks and even corn rows,
lives on today, as everyone knows.
Kojak, Match Game and yes, Charlie brown.
Not much on the tele, only 4 networks to be found.
The exorcist, The Sting, Enter the dragon and many more,
were playing at the drive-in or the theater next door.
If I could go back, I wouldn't change a thing,
except practice all day to become the reigning Dancing King.
Please oh please Don't take away my Disco Dream...
Thanks for reading, and now time for a treat. This is a quick look back at the Soul Train dance line. Featuring the music of the O'Jays "I love Music." Some of the dance moves and attire are Epic-ally funny. Enjoy...

Four (US) Networks..., Luxury..., I remember when there were only three! (And only three others up here.) Hope you've heard of the Monty Python skit I'm quoting there, 'Luxury! Twenty of us living in a shoebox beside the road!' 🤣🤣🤣 "Soul Train" was a definite favourite of mine back then- oh the music! Thanks for the memories. To quote James Earl Jones, "So thick you'll have to brush them away like flies..."
These took me back in time for sure
Nice ❤️💯
Wow, you hit that prompt out of the park!! This was fun and just like a time capsule. I loved the Soul Train video. Outstanding work :)
Love it! Gladys Knight's hair and grandma's peanut brittle -- great nostalgia all through.
