The Writer's Challenge

A Scribbler's Sonnet

The creator’s challenge is enormous:

Conjure up a world using strange symbols

That seizes our attention; you know us!

We measure our attention with thimbles

We are born distracted and die that way

The intoxication of distraction

Is the one deity we all obey

You look like you could use a vacation

Stop trying to create different worlds

We have all the fiction we really need

Isn’t it about time your banner furled?

Talk all you like, but we will not pay heed

It is to this that creators reply

Know your audience; now teach them to fly

You wrote it very well exactly relates with the reality

  • "We are born distracted and die that way". I loved that line the most because distracted is my default state of being, lol. Loved your poem!

Amazing story telling, D.J.! Although, of course, I recognise the form and am indeed being facetious. "We measure our attention with thimbles" - what a line!
