The World Upside Down
By Brianna Galligan
Capturing the images left behind,
The flood of water grips at the ankles of the earth.
Consumption seems imminent
As the black clouds gather over the placid lake of gray.
Sailboats drift with white sails over the rocky, sandy shore
That pitches and churns as a demon escaping its celestial prison.
The tides of stars drift in and out of focus
As the fireflies light up the night sky.
Contemplating trivial matters is useless.
Things that were, are not;
And things that were not, are.
Grasping for reality is a failing attempt at understanding catastrophe.
Wings gather in the skies and canopy the cacophony of forever.
Lips speak words no one has heard for a thousand years.
And the only sign of life is a small child staring into the oblivion of time.
Raucous displays of superiority outshine the glimpses of Zen.
Dreams clash with the world of the awoken.
No matter how many faces you see,
There is always another staring into the sapphires.
Chaos enhances the senses,
Perfuming the ideas of the future.
Seek and you will find.
Find and you will seek.
Carroll becomes logic as Dickens becomes simple.
Seuss becomes life and history becomes death.
Racing thoughts beat a never ending circle in the eyes of the soul.
To search is to lose.
To trust is to gain.
Nothing leaves.
All stays.
Soon a new sun will dawn
And the new age will begin.
