The Words I Wish I Could Have Said

There’s no greater pain than the loss of a child

Take me in your arms.
Tell me how you love me.
The mother I longed to see.
The mother who longed
To hold me close
And never let me go.

Tell me that my cries in the night
Would break your heart
As you hold a bottle to my waiting lips,
Wanting nothing more than my happiness,
Wanting nothing more than to call yourself
My mommy.

You are my Mommy,
Even though you never had the chance
To meet me.
You never knew
If I was a boy or a girl.
You never knew
What it’d feel like
To have my tiny hands grip your thumb
And tell you that I love you.

You’re still my mommy,
Even though you’ll never know
If my hair would have been brown or blonde,
If my eyes would mirror yours,
If I’d have grown up
To be a doctor or a lawyer.

Even though you will never know
How to fill the void
Losing me left in your heart,
You are still my Mommy.

And even though we never met,
I love you forever.
