THE WOMAN WHO ARGUED WITH HER SHADOW

I fell out with my shadow,
It happened yesterday,
I told her stop following me,
And kindly go away.

She followed me into town,
And followed in the shop,
I turned around and shouted,
When are you going to stop.

She never bloody answered,
Just copied what I done,
I waved my arms about a bit,
She thought it all was fun.

I tried to lose the bugger,
Behind a garden wall,
when I stepped back out again,
She hadn’t moved at all.

I told a passing policeman,
She’s followed me all day,
He looked behind me puzzled,
Then slowly walked away.

I hurried home quite angry,
And locked my bloody door,
I thought at last I’d lost her,
She couldn’t follow more.

Then sunlight hit the window,
And there she was again,
I pulled across the curtains,
And counted slowly ten.

So now we live together,
I’ve given up the fight,
She follows me all daytime,
Then buggers off at night.
