THE WOMAN I AM BECOMING

I used to fear tomorrow,
And wonder what I’d find,
I carried all my worries,
And kept them in my mind.

I worried about the future,
And things I couldn’t change,
I wished that life was different,
And everything felt strange.

I looked into the mirror,
And didn’t always see,
The person who had somehow,
Survived what came to me.

I had so many moments,
When I wanted to give in,
But something deep inside me,
Kept telling me to begin.

I cried about my failures,
And thought that I was wrong,
I wondered how I’d carry on,
When everything felt gone.

I compared myself to others,
And wished that I could be,
The person that I thought I was,
Supposed to be.

But slowly I grew wiser,
And started to understand,
That life could still be beautiful,
If I could change my plans.

I learned to trust my feelings,
And listen to my heart,
I realised that every day,
Can be another start.

I stopped chasing approval,
From people passing through,
I learned that being myself,
Was all I had to do.

I still have days of sadness,
And moments when I cry,
But I know that I am stronger,
Each time I try.

I’m proud of who I’m becoming,
And all that I have been,
The woman standing here today,
Is stronger from within.
