This National Kitchen Klutz's Day, odd souls do create chaos.

Or do they?

What does the kitchen reveal?

The smoke alarm shrieks,

Coal covering my burnt crisps

Flour flies on white wings.

Utensils bid for freedom.

The kitchen spirits now rise.

I lift the burned bread,

Sweep the charred crumbs on the floor.

No kitchen spirits.

But a wise kitchen cooking

New trials for me to temper.

An Epulaeryu is a Tanka on food. For those who are unfamiliar with the Tanka form, think of it as a Haiku with an extension of two lines.

Original story for Mikeydred's June Challenge

Mirrors of the MindΒ by Michelle Liew is a collection of psychological and supernatural short stories that explore the quiet unease beneath ordinary moments. These are not tales of spectacle, but of subtle fracture β€” where memory distorts, silence speaks, and the self is not always singular. In these stories, what is unseen often carries the greatest weight, and what lingers is not what is shown, but what is felt.
