The Wind Is a Narcissist in Disguise

The wind is a narcissist in disguise,
He never announces hello or goodbyes.
He steps in when he feels the need,
Then leaves when he’s tired, with frightening speed.

Nobody knows
On what spark of life he is wired,
He comes without warning,
Restless and untired.

He surrounds you,
Yet never shows his face,
You only see what he touches
As he tears through a place.

He feels just like a ghost,
Rattling windows in the night,
Whistling through the darkness,
Turning silence into fright.

He makes you shiver,
He makes you close your eyes,
The wind comes unannounced
And takes you by surprise.

He pushes against the rooftops,
He howls beneath the door,
Then disappears to somewhere
He has disappeared before.

And just as quickly as he came,
Suddenly he has left,
Taking the silence with him,
Like some invisible theft.

Leaving behind the destruction,
The evidence of where he’s been,
Broken branches, scattered leaves,
Yet the culprit remains unseen.

No apology, no explanation,
No reason for his contradictions.
The wind simply comes and goes
