The wave

A reoccurring dream

I blink.

Opening my eyes to find myself standing on the shore of an unknown ocean. My feet bare on the soft sand, feel the cold water stinging as it gently washes over my toes, splashing my ankles.

The wind is light, playfully teasing my hair, while fixed eyes remain upon the infinite, watery horizon.

Thoughts flutter with questions and confusion, I shiver, sinister energy creeping up my spine.

Panic, like a wild animal, tears through me, clawing its way through my body.

The liquid horizon shifts, looms, towers! yet, I cannot summon the strength to move. Fear tries to reconcile but acceptance guides me to submission.

I breathe deeply, hold my breath, relax. As the wave crashes down to consume me,

I blink.
