Summer through a different lens...

the splash hits us with a sudden cold rush,

and we laugh till our cheeks bloom rosy red,

groomed by the warm sun into a bright flush

and so far from any touch of fine dread.

*

the lake is our boon this late summer eve,

our feet playing by the waters' edge deep,

and we never know what thoughts we may weave

long before we fall into sweet dream sleep.

*

you sing sweet nothings to the fair wind flow,

and you're my wonder in this moment true—

the sun beginning to crest and creep low

while we question where all errant time flew.

*

we retreat for a quiet evening's end,

this lovely day I spent with my best friend.
