The Voyager’s Spark

Down, down, down into the darkness of the ocean.

Let it take you, let it, for only a moment, control you.

The ocean is big beyond belief, let it swallow you,

It’s bigger than the human mind can ever comprehend.

Gently it goes–the impossible, the unlikely, the inaccessible.

Humankind has dreamed, and done the impossible, even when we said no.

Neil on the moon, Huntley in the bottom of the sea, the Wrights and Earhart in top of the sky.

All because of humankind’s intuition.

All because of The Voyager’s Spark.

It represent the human intelligence, curiosity, and the fiber of the explorer in the veins of us all.

It represents the good we can do, the wonders of our world we can explore.

Even in the coldest points of the world, the tallest, and the hottest.

We’ve braved and bested one another in our short, but amazing history.

All because of The Voyager’s Spark.

But, I warn you, there is a fine line between explorer, and conqueror.

Explorer, and slayer of civilizations.

Explorer, and despot.

I warn you, we can do good, but we are humans.

And humans, are not, and never will be, perfect creatures.

We can exert good will, and the will of evil itself.

We can do good, but only if we try.

As the great Walt Whitman once said “Be curious, not judgmental.”
