The Unsaid Kind of Love
A legacy of silence
He and his childhood best friend
Sat quietly by the shore
Each can't stop thinking about the girl they love
And this has turned their lives upside down
*
Both are keeping it a secret
Both are trying to be careful and thoughtful
Watching the waves rush to shore
Their hearts start to ache
*
One opens up
He admits to his secret admiration
He admits to hiding his immense feelings
He feels better and now it's his friend's turn
*
The friend tense up
Because his way of loving
Is to always pretend he is fine
And strong, and able to protect
*
He has always been uptight
He is obedient and hasn't broken a single law
He doesn't want to admit his secret love
As if there is a law forbidding it
*
"Yes, there is someone."
He finally said.
He kept his tone calm
But his heart is racing a hundred times faster than usual
*
"How long has it been?"
"Years"
"Why haven't you said something?"
"Because I don't think she will reciprocate."
*
Then comes the long silence.
*
How does a meticulous man love?
Every time he wants to pour out his love
His rational side will take over
He evaluates the risk, and then fear grips him
*
There's so much pain to process
Too overwhelming for a man who never shows his fear
He has been living his life with great care
Because he has seen how fragile life can be
*
The long silence finally ends
Both get up and go their separate ways
One courageously confesses his love
One keeps it secret till the end
*
The two friends never forget what they said that day
They love in their own ways
But in the end, one thing is the same
Open or hidden, they are still thinking about the same girl whom they love
