The Unreachable
I see it there, I know the way,
Yet something pulls, something sways.
A breath too short, a step too slow,
Always close, but never home.
I reach, I wait, I try again,
The road curves, the path bends.
The closer I get, the further it seems,
Like chasing light inside a dream.
The unreachable sits just out of sight,
Close enough to spark the fight.
A step, a stretch, a hand held high,
Yet it drifts like clouds in the sky.
I chase, I climb, I run, I reach,
It stays just past my fingertips’ breach.
Not too far, not too near,
Just enough to keep it clear.
Maybe it’s not meant to hold,
Not to grasp, not to fold.
Maybe wanting, not having, is key.
Maybe the unreachable is not meant to Be.
