The Tunnel

I walk in a daze

I walk in a daze, every second of every minute of every day, I walk it's dark, a tunnel never-ending, always going; cold, dark, alone, nowhere to go, only forward is the way. The way back is pitch black, nothing there empty, only a dim light between you and the pitch-black darkness behind, a glimpse of what you once were but nothing more just a sliver a piece of your former self slowly being consumed by the darkness behind. Ahead of you a light, so far, so bright but yet out of reach. In the end, you shuffle forward. Walking with ease steady, you take careful steps towards the light. You see it clearly without grasp within reach, and you run for the exit happy to see the light, the day, the chirping bird, the warm sun on your skin at the end awaits happiness, but when you have reached it, you see nothing there; just the same tunnel you were in only in moments ago. Dark, cold, a faint light ahead, You look around for comfort, for a friend to hold on to; but it's only now you realize that you were all alone and you have always been all alone in the dark tunnel.
