The Power of Words

Small in size,

Yet spews vicious lies;

Spitting acid into their victims.

--A Seething Snake.

In the heart toxins fester,

Then protrude the lips to pester;

Exhaling putrid vapors;

--A Venomous Viper.

With insidious precision,

It creates emotional division

Within its master and its prey.

--A Cunning Cobra.

Yet…

Such a ferocious fork

Can be corked--

For Truth dissolves deceit

like a Mending Medicine.

And from a heart of honey

Oozes riches greater than money,

That sooth a sorrowful soul.

As with a Candied Kiss.

Wielding virtuous vapors,

All the grotesque tastes taper;

Breathing life and melting death--

To create a Sterling Spring.

So,

Where do you fall?

What is the connotation of your call?

Are your taste buds teeming

with spicy slander?

Or are you instead

Mindful of what’s said,

Keeping your mouth moist

With courteous complements?

Every day it’s a choice

That we make with our voice.

To sing as a loving lamb,

Or curse as a sinister serpent?

...This is the Truth of the Tongue…
