The Truth Behind Chartreuse

Original poem by Tamara Sawyer

By Tamara SawyerPublished 5 years ago 1 min read

What’s the truth behind chartreuse?

Is it really the color of envy?

Borrowed a smidge from the depths of blue and took all that yellow could lend me

Drowning from sadness yet uplifted by happiness

How can this be?

I squeezed my way to finally see what’s always been in between

Jealousy

Envy

Hatred

Greed

I am of the Earth!

I am electric!

I am free!

I am prejudice to all those racist

Friendly to familiar faces

I kept a hateful spirit near until I finally misplaced it;

Until I looked at color and I finally erased it

I was envious of the privileged

As insecure as that may seem

I remembered what was in between

Jealousy

Envy

Hatred

Greed

I am of the Earth!

I am electric!

I am free!

What’s the truth behind Chartreuse?

It is just a shade of green.
