The Treachery

By Joanna Farrow

The tension started from the ground, my toes

Then, to my knees did climb, I stood stock still.

Besides my thumping heart I all but froze.

To run or leap, to flee would take such skill.

The throb from my occipital did scream, Entrenching, drenched in sweat my eyes won't blink

My aching head, hairs standing up did deem, My senses were convicted to the clink.

Which creature stood behind me, man or beast?

Or would my life be snuffed before I knew?

Would I become weed fodder or a feast?

This lightless night would take me to my blue?

But wait! Some movement has returned to me, I turn to stare at death, no thing to see.
