i'm a morning person
i love mornings
opening my eyes and realizing
that i'm still here
means that i'm still being used
by You
i still have breath
to exalt You
to sing to You
of You
for You
with You
last night the rain cascaded
like the tears
of a thousand angels
and this morning
the sun shed light on
a soft green earth that will
soon spring forth the grasses
and the flowers beckoned
by the quenching
and You remind me
that my tears are not falling
in a barren desert made of
dust and dashed dreams
that in that place
flowers and hope
still spring luscious
each tear
a confession
that only You
can hear
and tonight when i lay
in the still darkness
as i always do
out loud i'll pray
so that the world
is forced to hear
what i say
for
the unbelievers
the lost
the defiant
even the ones who hate
especially the ones who hate
that the scales fall from their eyes
by the Light
that was
that is
that will be
the Way
the Truth
the Life
since the beginning
of the beginning
of Creation
i'm nothing but clay
just like us all
but You created us
grafted us onto the Vine
with faith
to bear fruit
the Root runs deep
in the garden
with the Light
of the Son
every day
is a gift.
