THE THING BEYOND THE VEIL

Trapped for ever more in an eternity of tears

THE THING BEYOND THE VEIL

Beyond the veil of coloured lights,
Halfway between the earth and sky,
A lonely figure watches life,
But no one knows the reason why.

He wandered where he shouldn’t go,
And glimpsed what waited far beyond,
Then tried to turn towards the earth,
something held and would not respond.

The coloured lights became a net,
They twisted tightly round his soul,
Each time he fought to free himself,
They dragged him deeper in their hold.

He tried for heaven, tried for earth,
He begged for somewhere he could be,
But neither world would let him through,
And neither world would set him free.

And so the years devoured his name,
His memories faded one by one,
Until the man who entered there
Forgot the person he’d become.

No longer living, never dead,
Not ghost, not spirit, flesh nor bone,
He watched two worlds continue on,
Condemned to watch them both alone.

And sometimes those approaching death,
Or those who dared to search beyond,
Would glimpse his eyes behind the veil,
Then blink — and suddenly he’d gone.

But in those seconds they had seen
The tears that never cease to fall,
And heard a distant dreadful wail
From somewhere neither here at all.

What sin had caught him in that place?
What truth had he been meant to learn?
Did heaven refuse to take him in,
Or did the earth refuse return?

Nobody knows. Nobody will.
Perhaps that secret died with him.
Perhaps he chose to turn away
When heaven’s light was growing dim.

Like some poor fish within a net,
Dragged helpless from a raging sea,
The more he fights, the more it binds.
There is no shore to set him free.

So when the coloured veil grows thin,
Don’t stare too long at what you see.
He still looks out through weeping eyes,
Trapped there for all eternity.

Forever caught.
Forevermore.
Amen. ❤️🌹
