THE TEARS I NEVER SHOWED

I kept them hidden deep inside

THE TEARS I NEVER SHOWED

I cried when no one saw me,
Behind my bedroom door,
I hid away my sadness,
Like I had done before.

I smiled when people asked me,
If everything was fine,
But underneath that smile was,
A heart that wasn’t mine.

I thought about the people,
Who promised they would stay,
Then left without a warning,
And simply walked away.

I wondered what was wrong with me,
And blamed myself for years,
I carried all their choices,
And washed them down with tears.

Some nights I couldn’t sleep then,
My thoughts would never rest,
I fought with all my memories,
That lived inside my chest.

I wished that I could tell them,
Just how much they had hurt,
But sometimes keeping quiet,
Was easier than words.

I learned that I was stronger,
Than I had ever known,
I didn’t need their answers,
To heal my heart alone.

Now when the tears come falling,
I let them have their way,
Then wipe them from my face and,
Begin another day.
