The Storm

A poem of life

By Kristina BrulePublished 3 months ago 1 min read

Mud-drenched shoes dragging my body with all their might.

Rain dripping down my face.

The wind freezing, ripping through my clothes, adding weight to my fight.

This storm unending.

The unyielding pain of the stinging cold.

The mud hardening on my skin as if creating its own layer attached to me.

Crying makes it worse and yelling is hidden among the noise of the storm.

My voice stolen and carried away.

One shoe lost miles back and an unknown amount of distance left.

Give up, turn back, or keep going?

I ask myself.

Throat aching, yearning for relief from the cold, dry air.

Skin burning, stinging, reddening.

For just a moment of peace, the eye of the storm is all I ask.

A break might help endure this storm a little longer; maybe I'll make it to the end and find the rainbow.
