The Stone Faces
I wandered through a garden where silence had weight,
Where four stone faces watched with unreadable eyes,
Their mouths shaped tiny ovals of almost-breath,
As if they were trying to warn me of something unseen.
They stood together like a family carved from memory,
Weathered by time, softened by rain and sun,
Holding a sadness too heavy for words to carry,
And yet refusing to crumble or turn away.
I felt their stillness sink into my own chest,
A reminder that not all wounds learn to speak,
Some simply live in the air around us,
Gentle, patient, waiting for us to understand.
And walking past them, I realised they knew me,
Not by name, but by the loneliness in my steps,
By the way I try to keep my heart steady,
Even when I feel like cracking just the same.
