The stillness where you once stood~
" In the act of letting go, I remain in the space you've left behind "

I opened the gates for you-
every one of them.
Let you walk in, barefoot, unannounced.
You didn’t knock -
You didn’t need to.
Because I made it feel like home.
Safe. Soft. Yours.
But lately, you've been walking out like you never wanted in.
You’ve been slamming the doors behind you -
like they weren’t mine to open.
Like this heart wasn’t yours to hold.
And I don’t know what hurts more:
your silence,
your shift,
or the way I’m still standing here
waiting for a version of you
that might - never return.
This isn’t just sadness.
It’s pain wrapped in hope.
Fear tangled with love.
Confusion tied to silence.
It’s the ache of being too much,
too open,
too believing in someone
who no longer reaches back.
And all I keep asking is -
what did I do
to deserve this quiet kind of distance
from someone I let so close?
