Staring at a blank screen

Fingers hovering expectantly

Over the hungry keyboard

Awaiting the spark of creativity

***

My fingers flutter in mid-air

The screen is a virgin white

The frustration builds within me

As daytime turns to night

***

Darkness beckons from my window

The moon shining white on high

My desk strewn with emptied coffee cups

My creativity has gone awry

***

Sweat soaked, head in hands

Fingers curled tight in hair

Trying to pull an idea free

For a new poem winsome and fair

***

Finally, dazed and confused

With my mind at last set free

My fingers alight on the keyboard

And dance without thought from me

***

I go to bed fulfilled

In the early hours of the morn

The screen virgin white no more

My creativity adorned

***

I sleep a restful sleep

After my imagination ignited

Amid dreams of recognition for a job well done

For a new poem into this world invited
