Digging in the Roots of the Tree of Life

The Sound of 200,000,000 Sperm Screaming

I am not sure when I first heard them screaming

I reckon there are less of them when you are young, so they don’t scream much then.

But by age 10-12, male puberty begins, and we males of our species, start making sperm at about 1,500 every second, so they begin to accumulate pretty fast. The pressure then begins to mount, and the screaming starts shortly thereafter.

They scream because they all have only one goal – every single one of them – to get out of your body and into another body and create a new life.

They want it very badly and like a baby that cries to get your attention…and keeps crying until it does get your attention…the sperm all begin to scream…so you’ll notice them and respond to their need, their insatiable need to leave your body.  And all the while, 1,500 more are being created every second of every day.

This deep primal pressure ebbs and flows but it is always there - a presence felt every moment from puberty until your last breath - screaming at you – telling you that you must develop opportunities for them to get out.

And for every release… for every male volcanic eruption - about 200,000,000 sperm leave our bodies. Each hoping that they will be the one that succeeds in their primal swim.

Sometimes, I think the ones that scream the loudest are the ones pushed up against the exit gate…ready to go…just as soon as you find a way… find a way!…find a way!! Screaming non-stop, incessant, demanding, bending your mind, altering perception, changing behavior…so you pay attention to their need to leave.

And when they do inevitably leave, they are each ready to start swimming, hoping…wanting…needing to beat the 200,000,000 to one odds, to be the one that create a new life.

To be clear… this is NOT an excuse for bad behavior.  There is no excuse for violating the will and rights of another.  Nor is it a complaint either.  It is just an observation after more than 75 years on this planet.

But…it is a biological factor that almost all men live with their entire lives, but few ever consciously think about.

It is billions of years of evolution pushing on you, every second of your life looking for every opportunity…even a remote possibility… to succeed at their biologically charged imperative.

So many moments, so many aspects of your life…

Lived under the unrelenting and never-ending static sound of 200,000,000 sperm screaming.
