The son I never had

A poem that transcends time

By Benjamin AubertPublished 3 years ago • 1 min read

I was struck with sadness when I found out that I would never be able to have a son. But from that sadness I got inspired to write a poem that transcends time. Enjoy and comment.

My Son

I wanted to write some words you will not read

It is not your fault by the way, but simply mine

After all, I never saw you growing up as my kid

You sort of only lived in the cradle of my mind

In my imagination, though, we had a lot of fun

But illusions faded in the void of your absence

Many tears blurred the vision of my unmet son

Yet, I swear, it is as if I always felt your presence

One day, you inspired me my greatest mission

I went on to reshape a world to make it better

So that I can raise you in a saner civilisation

I hope that would make you proud of your father

Forgive me and goodbye for now my unknown son

A lifetime shall come where you’ll read this poem

Indeed, even if we didn’t meet this time around

I know that one day I will hold your loving hand

heartbreak
