You know when you make a hot cocoa

We call it hot chocolate

If you don't mix it properly

(And sometimes even when you do)

Sludgy mess collects

At the bottom of the mug

Sludgy cocoa, sugary and milky mess

That's how it feels sometimes

Life

That's how life feels sometimes

Roaming through life

is like

Roaming through that sludgy mess

That sits at the bottom of the cup

Sludgy cocoa mess

Without the sugary hit

You want to leap forward

But

the sludgy coagulated mess

Keeps pulling you down

So you take one big step

Slowly

and then another

Just as when you stir

The sludgy mess

At the bottom of your hot cocoa

We call it hot chocolate

The more you keep moving

The easier it gets

So just keep moving

Work through obstacles

Through the sludgy cocoa

The sludgy, sugary cocoa

without the sugary hit

Things will start to come together

Things will get smoother

Things will get sweeter

They may not always stay smooth

or sweet

And may still, at times

be like

that sludgy mess at the bottom of your hot cocoa

but don't give up

And embrace

The sweeter, smoother moments

When they come.

When life hands you cocoa, make sludge. Sometimes, it's what we do that makes our life most difficult. We're the culprit. We gotta take ourselves out! Lol, I'm sorry Paul, excuse my behaviour. Your poem was very deep!

Great analogy. Well done, my friend

  • Very Good Paul! I don’t drink Hot Chocolate anymore now it’s coffee need that caffeine fix but I definitely still get caught up in life’s sludgy mess 😂

Fantastic!!! Love the comparison of the sludgy cocoa mess and life. With a positive inspirational ending. Loved it!!!❤️❤️💕

I drink hot chocolate all winter long… and the winters here can last November through April. So this analogy works for me. I hate that sludgy mess in the bottom of my mug! And yes, sometimes it’s there even when I’ve whisked and whisked—because I always make hot chocolate on the stove with whole milk, or half and half. So indulgent. “but don't give up And embrace The sweeter, smoother moments When they come.” YES. 🍫

I love the way this one ended, “embrace the sweeter, smoother moments when they come.” A quick burst of encouragement. Well done!

Fantastic, Paul. Really gets to the heart of our day to day life. Wonderful analogy 💕🙂

  • I love hot chocolate (though hot cocoa does sound richer & better), I enjoy the sludgy mess at the bottom (never waste a drop), & this poem is da bomb (as in a hot cocoa bomb--also as in it's really good). Well done.

Yes. Relatable. Interesting. Hot chocolate drinking cocoa duly noted. Non-rhyming = excellent. Yes, I think I can safely say, good work. Well done.

What a metaphor! I'll be thinking of this the next time I drink hot chocolate. :)

Well done Paul. It seems you can take just about anything and turn it into a life lesson.
