The Sky, Too Sings the Siren's Song

After it's Gone

The Sirens by Gustave Moreau c. 1872 from Wikiart.org

Sky, bruised and bleeding

Powdery sunset dulled with ash

Rubbed into an azure lesion

Slick with agony, filled with death

Drifting into a frothy sea-foam

.

Circled by de-plumed squawking gulls

.

Rivers of vivid amalgamated toxicity

Predatory faces slathered haphazardly

On jagged stacked rocks

Lining the waterfront

Poison percolating

Slowly overwhelming debris-strewn shores

Infiltrating multi-textured fissures

Running through hair-fine cracks and channels

Concentrating in soil, pebble, and sand

Leeching from the lethally subjugated land

Defiling every mer-woman and man

.

A glowing golden Queen

Attended by transmuting clergy

Perched upon an ancient seaside effigy

Formerly, part of her subaqueous domain

Now, waves only lap at the

Altar’s basalt cornerstone

While home after home

Built upon stolen sands

Her waters swallow

Copper mirror to be reclaimed

At the newly birthed feet of the regal trio

.

Sprung from the depths

Driven from the steaming sea

Sent to take vengeance on those

Slaughtering their families

.

Crowns of precious coral

Forged in flaring vents

Adorn undulant locks of

Cool, supple, living seaweed

Serpentine features rough and scaly

Recede with the sun

Freshly drying up with the brine

Revealing alabaster skin beneath

Luminescent in the dimming light

Soft, pearly, and refined

.

The last royal raiments of

Sugar kelp reeled to the surface

Sovereign draped in her

Majestic ceremonial garb

A delegation with a mission

.

Unleash the dirge of

Man’s final destruction

Remind all humanity they’re

Deserving of retribution
