Walking through cobbled streets

no aims, no goals

Wonderful aimlessness.

-

Stopped cold

an inviting presence

a rumble to remind.

-

It’s lunchtime

stomach concerned

no meal on the horizon.

-

So this new sight

most welcome

venture inside.

-

Small talk planned

initiated

transacted.

-

A precious parcel in hand

excitement barely contained

be seated.

-

Tentatively unwrap

the unnatural peel

to get to the fruit inside.

-

First bite

time stands still

waiting for the verdict of the tongue.

-

An explosion of senses

a technicoloured dream

coating the mouth.

-

Spiritual satisfaction

a new outlook on life

fuel for the day.

-

Sometimes in life

the most mundane of things

can lift you up.

-

Such as

-

The simple sandwich.
