The Silence That Remains

Gather What Cannot Be Spoken

"Not all words must be said to be remembered."

I sit at the edge of the field at night,

listening.

The frost has already begun its hymn,

the sky leans heavy with stars.

✦

The silence is not empty—

it is full of presence.

Every pause between heartbeats,

every space between breaths,

is a gathering place.

✦

The trees bend closer,

not to speak,

but to bear witness.

Even the stones hum with patience,

their stillness a testament.

✦

I gather silence

the way others gather grain:

carefully, reverently,

knowing it feeds me too.

✦

When words fail,

silence remains,

and it is enough.

About the Creator

Rebecca A Hyde Gonzales

I love to write. I have a deep love for words and language; a budding philologist (a late bloomer according to my father). I have been fascinated with the construction of sentences and how meaning is derived from the order of words.
