The Significance of the American Flag
Written Word
The American flag with it’s 13 stripes and 50 stars
It signifies the great country and everything that’s ours
Life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness on this land
On this earth, there is nothing greater and nothing more grand
It makes sense that we would stand up for our flag
We fought for it, died for it. Why wouldn’t we boast and brag
About the greatness of those who came before
Those who were like eagles, whose mission was to fly, to soar
It stands for our great military that commit themselves to the preservation
Of this country, the people, and the government of this great nation
The US Air force - they provide air support to help during missions
They work hard and execute their longstanding traditions
The US Army - established in 1775
As the main ground force, the soldiers’ mission is to stay alive
The US Navy - known as the defender of the seas
They are great at acting upon their expertise
The US Marines - became a separate branch in 1798
As the most strictest, it lives up to the name ‘great’
The US Coast Guard - The smallest branch, established in 1790
Working under the Navy, the men in this field are nothing less than mighty
It stands for a great country that thrives off of the back of freedom
It flows in the wind as the people gather and sing its anthem
It represents a resting place for those who have served
What does the American flag mean to me? It means… the world.
