The Siege

Just Another Poem

A voluminous, violaceous monster batters the city gates

It roars and surges forward, stretching across the field

A thousand teeth and claws, rattle and clash

They flash and flicker, drawing lightning across the monster’s back

-

Chaos inside, a tower crumbles,

flattening crowds of people like so many ants

Yet, they scream in terror as no insect could

The monster consumes the walls - a fire too, begins to feed

-

And I high above - soaring on the back of a great winged beast,

wizened, battle hardened, fierce, but majestic -

Look down, brandish my sword, and think,

He doesn’t look so big from here
