The Sentinel

The bright blue sentinel stands

Over the bustling noise of Earth,

Glaring at those too busy to notice him.

He calls out the clouds white and

Puffy to dance around him,

Hoping to entertain them enough

To give him a glance or a thought.

Only a few care to.

His clouds turn grey and his tears

Fall heavy on those who ignore his show,

But curses and complaints fire

From the surface in answer to his grief.

Anger rolls through him as the

Insults slash his heart

Turning him black with rage.

A crackling storm chases his tears away,

His maniacal laughter breaking through

With each clap of thunder

As they scramble away from

The thrusts of his lightening.

Suddenly guilt drowns his anger.

His vision fills with the destruction

He has caused to his charges.

Black fades to grey once more,

Tears splashing the wounds of earth

Wrought by his hands.

Something tickles his ears.

He scans the surface where

A few of the tiny ones giggle,

Dancing with each other through puddles.

A warm glow trickles into him,

The bright blue bursting from behind

His grey sarcophagus and a

Brilliant rainbow arches across him,

Kissing the horizons.

For a moment, he witnesses everyone

Throw their eyes skyward

In awe at his beauty.

The peaceful magic settles with

Smiles growing below each set of eyes.

The grey is completely swept away,

Replaced by his sapphire flare.

He can now watch peacefully

With his esteem lifted for a time.
