The Sea Turned Red With The Blood Of Seagulls
The sad death of the birds

The Sea Turned Red With The Blood Of Seagulls
It happened without the warning of storms,
No thunder had broken, no wind had cried out,
The sky was as pale as a held breath above,
And nothing had hinted what came about.
The gulls had been circling in their old way,
Their calls stretched thin across the open air,
A rhythm as steady as tides on the shore,
A presence so constant it barely felt there.
Then something shifted, though none could explain,
A silence that pressed where the sound used to be,
One fell, then another, then more from the sky,
Like fragments released into waiting sea.
The water received them without any change,
No wave rose higher, no current grew wild,
Yet slowly the colour began to transform,
As though the horizon itself had compiled.
A red that did not belong to the dusk,
Nor to any sunset that memory holds,
It spread with a patience that needed no force,
A quiet that deepened as each moment unfolds.
No cause could be seen from the stretch of the sand,
No answer was carried in wind or in foam,
Only the weight of a question remained,
And the sense that the sea had reclaimed its own.
The gulls that survived did not linger for long,
They scattered like thoughts that refuse to stay still,
Leaving the shore to a stillness so dense,
It settled in places no voice could fulfil.
And even now when the tide turns again,
There lingers a trace in the edge of the light,
A memory held in the breath of the waves,
Of something that happened, and never felt right.
