The Sacred Curriculum: How the Universe Tests Your Soul

If love cannot awaken you, life will awaken you with pain.

If pain cannot awaken you, life will awaken you with even greater pain. The world is truly the ultimate school and the grand examination hall for the soul. Life is full of challenges, and its various hardships and pleasures are like exam questions. Your thoughts and actions are the answers you write.

These questions appear in your family, between spouses, with children and elders, with relatives and friends, in your conduct, in your interpersonal relationships, in your social life, and in matters of fame, fortune, power, and money. They appear when you are scolded, bullied, or hurt for no reason—in all things that are unfavorable or unpleasant to you. Remember, these are all Heaven testing you through the people and circumstances around you!

Heaven's "Exam Paper" This is Heaven's way of loving you: it rarely gives you what you merely desire.

• Test 1: When you desire wealth, Heaven gives you a test by making you penniless. If you can still feel content and fulfilled, focusing on your own internal happiness, you pass!

• Test 2: When you desire love, Heaven gives you a test by making the person you love not love you back, or by leaving you completely alone. If you can love yourself entirely and enjoy your own solitude, you pass!

• Test 3: When you desire health, the universe gives you a test: can you still love, praise, and cherish yourself when you are unwell? If you can, the universe approves!

• Test 4: When you crave power, Heaven gives you a heavy stone. When you move that stone, you discover your true power. When you crave wisdom, Heaven gives you difficulties. When you overcome those difficulties, you awaken prajna wisdom.

• Test 5: When you crave true love, Heaven creates betrayal. When you learn to forgive through the pain of betrayal and transcend that moment, true love will finally appear before you.
