The Rise of the Green Phoenix

A fiery quadru-haiku about life after death and rising from the ashes!

Scorched, pillaged and still

Remnants of a ruthless rage

Left to run it’s course

———————————————

Mercy from heaven

Weep for steaming hearth and bones

At rampages end

———————————————

Settling ashes rest

Returning from whence they came

To nourish… To heal…

———————————————

Stoic! Triumphant!

Green phoenix rise from blackness

Growth is imminent!

This poem draws on my experience with the 2019/20 Australian bushfires. The terrifying blaze, smoke haze and destruction that ensued was something like I’d never seen. Driving through scorched land that were once so lush and full of life was devastating to witness.

Though there was something eerily beautiful about the vibrant green stalks of growth that broke throw in the weeks following. Like a symbol of fortitude and resilience!

It also touches lightly on my experience with domestic violence and how it felt to break free from that time in my life. A time that is now truly over for me! How fortunate we are to find growth in darkness and to move forward into a vibrant new future.
