Crab scavengers hunt…

Sagely and with diligence…

For the right home…

Author's Note:

I recently watched a couple of YouTube videos that effectively showcased the plight of many hermit crabs, who are losing their shelled homes because human vacationers often take shells they find on the beach as souvenirs home with them.

According to Wikipedia, hermit crab shells are essentially theĀ leftover shells of deceased snails that they use as shelter homes to protect themselves from predators, and the process of "drying out" from the heat which can often lead to death or injury for the hermit crab.

I also learned from my research that because of the shortage of shells at the beach due to humans collecting them, some hermit crabs have had to use beach trash (i.e., cans and bottle caps) as makeshift shelter homes instead.Ā

The following video opened my eyes to hermit crab housing shortages:

Next time I'm at the beach, I have now decided to leave each shell that I see where I found it so that one of our hermit crab friends won't be without shelter.

Because at the end of the day everyone deserves a comfy place to call home.

Thanks for stopping by!

Much Love,
