The Refrain of My Soul

What Keeps Me Moving

By Aubrey RebeccaPublished 10 months ago 1 min read

I will be enough, just a little more.

I’ll work harder so I’m not alone.

Wait til you see what I have in store.

.

The belt on my skin left me sore;

I learned my lessons, fists on bone.

I will be enough, just a little more.

.

I grew up, made it out the door;

the voice in my head still makes me atone.

Wait til you see what I have in store.

.

My mind relives that life of war;

I won’t let pain turn my heart to stone.

I will be enough, just a little more.

.

The day I left, I vowed, I swore—

but it’s never enough; I’m accident-prone.

Wait til you see what I have in store.

.

Dejected, sobbing on the floor,

my voice comes out a shaky groan.

I will be enough, just a little more.

Wait til you see what I have in store.

About the Creator

Aubrey Rebecca

My writing lives in the liminal spaces where memoir meets myth, where contradictions—grief/joy, addiction/love, beauty/ruin—tangle together. A Sagittarius, I am always exploring, searching for the story beneath the story. IG: @tapestryofink
